Home First Aid Week 2 Burns Continued As we can see from the diagrams above. Burns to children are worse than those to adults. Remember the rule from last week, If the patient is an adult with more than 20% burns they must go to hospital and a child with 10% or more must go as well. If a patient is not severely burnt but has black soot marks around the nose and or the mouth they should seek medical advice as they develop breathing difficulties. Remember when you are in doubt ALWAYS seek medical advice urgently. There are 3 classifications of burns. Any open wound even from burns (were the skin has been broken) will cause an infection if not treated properly, please refer to our last issue on burns to find the treatment of these wounds.
